Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has paid a touching tribute to his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, by commissioning a hostel named in her honour at Clifford University in Abia State.
The multi-award-winning artist arrived at the university accompanied by members of his 30BG crew and nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, receiving a warm and emotional welcome from students, staff, and fans who gathered to witness the moment.
Davido, who also delivered the commencement speech at the event, described the hostel project as a reflection of his mother’s lifelong commitment to education, compassion, and service. He noted that his late mother’s values continue to guide his personal and professional journey, shaping his passion for philanthropy and leadership.
“Standing before the graduating class of Clifford University today giving the commencement speech, I felt something bigger than music. I saw a generation ready to change everything,” he said.
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and a giver who believed that education and compassion could change lives. Everything I am, the music, the drive, the heart, came from her. This hostel isn’t just a tribute, it’s a continuation of her purpose, turning love into legacy, one life at a time.”
In his inspiring address, the ‘Feel’ crooner urged young Africans to use their talents and platforms to create meaningful impact rather than chasing fame alone. He emphasized that “talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”
Davido’s emotional words resonated deeply across social media, where fans and colleagues praised him for blending fame with philanthropy. His wife, Chioma Adeleke, also reacted to the video of the unveiling, simply describing the moment as “so beautiful.”
The newly inaugurated Dr. Veronica Adeleke Hostel is expected to serve as accommodation for students of Clifford University, standing as a lasting symbol of compassion, education, and empowerment, values the late Dr. Veronica championed during her lifetime.
Through this gesture, Davido once again reinforces his mantra, “We rise by lifting others,” proving that even amid global stardom, his heart remains rooted in love, legacy, and humanity.
