Award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Seyi Shay, has finally opened up about her relationship status and the reason she’s not married to the father of her daughter, despite their seemingly close and harmonious relationship.
In a heartfelt chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Right Now crooner revealed that her decision not to walk down the aisle was driven by personal conviction and practicality, rather than societal pressure. Describing the situation as “technical,” Seyi Shay said marriage is not part of their current plans and that’s perfectly fine by both of them.
According to her, she and her child’s father share a strong friendship rooted in mutual respect, understanding, and shared parenting goals, which has helped them build a peaceful and balanced co-parenting arrangement.
“He’s great, he’s cool, he’s around. He’s Nigerian, currently based in the UK, and works in the music industry on the corporate side,” she revealed. “We work closely to raise our child, and our focus has always been on giving her the best foundation possible.”
The singer emphasised that while society often places pressure on women to marry, her priority has shifted towards creating a stable and loving environment for her daughter rather than fulfilling societal expectations.
Since welcoming her daughter in 2022, Seyi Shay said motherhood has completely transformed her outlook on life, relationships, and her music career. She noted that the experience has made her more intentional about her choices and more focused on love, growth, and purpose.
“Motherhood changed everything,” she admitted. “It made me realize what truly matters. I’m learning every day to grow into the woman and artist I’m meant to be not what people expect me to be.”
Seyi Shay, known for her chart-topping hits like Yolo Yolo and Gimme Love, added that she’s currently in a season of self-discovery, one where peace, purpose, and authenticity guide her journey rather than public opinion.
