Global streaming powerhouse, Spotify, has officially crowned Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr as the biggest female Afrobeats artist of the past year.
In its newly released ranking titled ‘Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists In The Last 12 Months’, the Mavin Records star clinched the top spot, further cementing her status as one of the fastest-rising global stars from Africa. Spotify praised her impact, describing the 22-year-old hitmaker as “the pop star of Afrobeats.”
Grammy winner Tems followed closely at number two, reaffirming her influence as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated voices. At number three was American-Cameroonian breakout star Libianca, best known for her viral hit “People.” Malian-French singer Aya Nakamura took the fourth spot, while British-Nigerian artist Darkoo rounded out the list at number five.
Notably absent from the ranking was South African singer Tyla, whose Afrobeats-inspired single “Water” dominated global charts and earned her multiple awards in the last year, leaving many fans surprised at her omission.
Spotify also unveiled its Top 5 Afrobeats Artists In Latin America, a list completely dominated by Nigerian talent. Rema secured the number one position, with Ayra Starr taking second place, CKay landing third, while Burna Boy and Wizkid held the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
With Ayra Starr’s latest recognition, she continues to solidify her reputation as one of Afrobeats’ leading lights, carrying the genre’s influence to audiences worldwide.
