Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again taken the spotlight as her much-anticipated attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice officially kicked off at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The former Guinness World Record holder, who first captivated global attention in 2023 with her history-making cooking marathon, had announced her plans for this new culinary feat via Instagram on August 22, 2025. Since then, anticipation has been building across social media, with fans eagerly awaiting the historic cook-off.
A live video shared on Hilda’s official YouTube channel, which boasts over 60,000 subscribers, showed the electric atmosphere at the venue. A massive crowd turned out for the event, proving that Hilda’s earlier revelation that over 20,000 people registered to attend was no exaggeration.
The event was set up to blend food, music, and entertainment. A hypeman kept the crowd energized with chants, while DJs pumped out loud hits that had attendees singing, dancing, and waving in excitement. The vibrant turnout underscored the cultural significance of the moment, not just as a record-breaking attempt but also as a celebration of Nigeria’s beloved jollof rice.
With her giant custom-built 22,619-litre pot already on fire, Hilda is not only chasing another world record but also hosting a food festival that has quickly become one of Lagos’ most talked-about events of the year.
