Nigerian celebrity chef and former Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has officially embarked on her latest historic quest; cooking the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The ambitious attempt, which began today at Eko Hotel, Lagos, is targeted at using 250 bags of rice to prepare a meal large enough to feed tens of thousands.
Hilda, who rose to global fame in 2023 after breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon, was welcomed by a lively crowd of fans and supporters as she kicked off the challenge.
Before firing up the massive 22,619-litre custom-built pot, Hilda was joined by her mother in a heartfelt prayer session. The emotional moment, where they sought divine strength, protection, and endurance, drew cheers from spectators, many of whom praised her mother’s role as a key pillar of her success.
Taking to social media, Hilda also shared a light-hearted but symbolic update ahead of the cookathon. “Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.
The event, which was initially scheduled for Muri Okunola Park, had to be moved to Eko Hotel due to overwhelming interest. According to organizers, more than 20,000 people registered to attend, signaling the massive anticipation surrounding the record attempt.
With her eyes set on making culinary history once again, Hilda Baci’s journey is being watched closely, not only by Nigerians but by admirers worldwide eager to see Jollof rice enter the Guinness World Records in grand style.
