Festus Ogun, a Lagos-based lawyer, has filed a lawsuit against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for blocking him on X, formerly Twitter.
Ogun claims the governor’s action violates his constitutional right to freedom of expression and amounts to discrimination.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in August 2025, seeks a court order to compel Sanwo-Olu to unblock Ogun and issue a public apology.
Ogun, known as @mrfestusogun on X, stated that the block, which has lasted nearly three years, caused him significant mental stress and trauma.
However, he emphasized that he is not seeking financial compensation, only the reversal of the block and an apology. “Just unblock me,” Ogun said in a post on X.
The lawsuit has sparked discussions about digital rights and the responsibilities of public officials on social media.
Ogun argues that as a Lagos resident, his inability to access or interact with the governor’s posts on X limits his ability to engage in public discourse.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has not publicly responded to the lawsuit, and no court date has been confirmed yet.
