Nigerian rapper and Zanku Records boss, Zlatan Ibile, has shared candid advice with up-and-coming artistes about the hidden challenges that come with fame and success in the music industry.
Taking to his social media page on Thursday, the Zanku crooner urged rising stars to take their mental health seriously, stressing that therapy is just as important as marketing and promotion.
On his X handle, Zlatan wrote:
“If you get brother or sister wey be fast rising artist and you believe say he or she go blow as una dey keep money for marketing and promo make una dey keep therapist money for one side tooo cos lol!!!”
The rapper’s message underscores the growing conversation about the emotional and psychological demands of life in the spotlight. According to him, success in the music industry often comes with intense pressure, scrutiny, and challenges that can weigh heavily on an artiste’s mental health.
Zlatan’s remarks reflect sentiments shared by many Nigerian musicians who have openly spoken about battling depression, anxiety, and other mental health struggles while navigating fame.
In recent years, stars like Omah Lay, BNXN (fka Buju), and Victony have been vocal about the emotional toll of their careers. Notably, in 2022, Omah Lay revealed on X that his depression worsened after a controversial encounter with his therapist.
By advising sponsors and families of upcoming artistes to plan ahead, Zlatan reinforces the need to normalize conversations around therapy in the entertainment space. His statement also highlights the importance of balancing career growth with mental and emotional well-being.
With the Nigerian music industry continuing to dominate the global stage, Zlatan’s message serves as both a warning and a reminder that behind the glamour of fame lies a reality that requires care, support, and sometimes, professional help.
