The Lagos State government has strongly condemned an attack on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) at Mile 2.
The incident happened while the officers carried out their road safety duties. Officials described the assault as a serious challenge to the state’s authority.
The Ministry of Transportation released a statement on August 27, 2025, expressing deep anger over the event.
They said the attackers would face arrest and full punishment under the law. “This appalling and utterly reprehensible act is a direct affront not only to the officers involved but also to the authority and dignity of the Lagos State Government,” the statement read. “It will never go unpunished.”
VIO officers enforce road rules to keep drivers and passengers safe. The government stressed that harming them weakens law and order.
“To raise a hand against them is to undermine the rule of law, subvert public order, and desecrate the very institutions established to protect society,” the ministry added.
The injured officers are now getting medical care and showing signs of recovery. Despite this, the government remains firm on seeking justice. They promised to support all staff and prevent future attacks.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi signed the statement.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to safety. “The Ministry will not relent in its duty to protect those who serve nor will it allow criminal elements to intimidate or obstruct the lawful work of the government,” he stated.
The government urged residents to respect officials and report any threats. This response aims to maintain peace on Lagos roads amid growing traffic concerns. Authorities continue to investigate the Mile 2 attack to bring those responsible to court.
