Residents across Lagos State have turned out in large numbers for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began in-person on August 25, 2025.
The initiative allows new voters to register, existing ones to update details, and others to replace lost cards, running until August 30, 2026.
Jubril A. Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting the activity in Ward E3, Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area.
The footage, recorded on August 25, shows crowds of people under large tents, seated at tables with laptops, printers, and INEC banners. Men and women wait in lines, filling forms, and interacting with registration officials in a busy, organized setup.
In his post, Gawat stated: “PVC Registration of new voters ongoing in my ward, Ward E3, Lagos Island East LCDA by @inecnigeria. Our work is to make sure that most of our people that don’t have PVCs come out massively to register to vote Next elections, for Mr President, Mr Governor, Our Chairman and all our other candidates. This video was recorded yesterday. This good turnout is ongoing across Lagos State.”
Lagos and Osun states lead the nation with the highest numbers in the online pre-registration phase, where over 1.3 million Nigerians signed up before the in-person kickoff.
INEC has set up centers in all 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos, making it easy for eligible citizens aged 18 and above to participate.
Officials encourage residents to visit the INEC portal for details on locations and requirements, such as proof of age and address. This drive aims to boost voter turnout for the 2027 general elections and other polls.
