The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared reports claiming that Interpol rejected its wanted alert against Abdullahi Bashir Haske, son-in-law of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as fake news.
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the EFCC shared an image of the viral news on its official X account, with “FAKE NEWS” prominently stamped across it, signaling the claim’s falsehood.
The agency did not issue a detailed statement but used the graphic to counter the misinformation.

The controversy began after the EFCC declared Haske, a 38-year-old businessman based in Ikoyi and Victoria Island, wanted on August 21, 2025, for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
Following the announcement, online reports surfaced, alleging Interpol dismissed the alert as “politically motivated” due to Haske’s ties to Atiku, a key opposition figure.
The EFCC’s post on X firmly rejects these claims, signaling that the wanted alert remains active.
