Australian-born rapper and singer Iggy Azalea has revealed her deep admiration for Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Victony, calling him her “favourite artist” at the moment.
The US-based star made the revelation during a recent livestream session with popular internet personality and streamer, N3on. When asked about her current go-to artist, Azalea didn’t hesitate to mention Victony; a fast-rising Nigerian artist known for his distinct sound and versatility.
“I like Victony. He’s an Afrobeats artist. He’s on fire. I found him on Apple Music while listening to a collaboration he did with another artist, and I fell in love with his sound,” she gushed.
Azalea went on to describe how Victony’s music has become part of her daily routine.
“Now, he is one of my soundtracks in the shower,” she added with a smile.
Her praise adds to the growing list of global music stars who have openly embraced Nigerian artists as favourites in recent years.
Just a few years ago, American pop star and multiple Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish stunned fans when she declared Tekno as her favourite artist during an interview. Similarly, Colombian pop queen Shakira revealed earlier this year that Burna Boy holds a special place in her playlist, calling him one of her favourite artists.
The global spotlight continues to shine on Nigerian music, as artists like Victony steadily gain international recognition and admiration, a testament to the meteoric rise and influence of Afrobeats on the world stage.
