There’s trouble in celebrity paradise as Nigerian music star, Davido, has reportedly unfollowed Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo on Instagram. The move comes in the wake of a leaked WhatsApp conversation that has stirred fresh controversy over the death of late singer, Mohbad.
Social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, shared screenshots of a private group chat allegedly created by Iyabo Ojo to coordinate the ‘Justice for Mohbad’ campaign. In the leaked messages, Iyabo did not hold back her criticism of Davido, accusing the singer of seeking attention rather than genuinely fighting for justice.
Iyabo, who was at the forefront of the nationwide outcry following Mohbad’s controversial death in 2023, reportedly blasted Davido for continuing to follow Naira Marley on social media, an artist many had linked to Mohbad’s troubles before his death.
Expressing her disappointment, Iyabo wrote:
“My problem is not even the black whatever, it is Davido who flew down like he claimed to fight for justice, but he still dey follow Naira Marley.”
“That means he was chasing clout. I’m so disappointed with him and to think he has been saying he is the only superstar artist who stood by Mohbad. Jess fake love 001.”
The messages sparked outrage, and it didn’t take long for Davido to respond—digitally. A quick check revealed that the “Unavailable” crooner had unfollowed Iyabo Ojo on Instagram, a move widely seen as a silent clapback. Interestingly, Iyabo still follows Davido.
Mohbad’s death had triggered widespread protests and solidarity across Nigeria, with top celebrities including Davido, Falz, and Zlatan Ibile attending a candlelight procession to honour him. Iyabo Ojo played a leading role in the campaign, going as far as advocating for the late singer’s exhumation to aid the investigation.
However, in a more recent interview, the actress admitted she now regrets pushing for the exhumation, a reflection that adds another layer of complexity to the unfolding drama.
As the dust continues to rise around the leaked chats, fans are left wondering if this rift between Davido and Iyabo is temporary or marks a permanent fallout in their shared activism for Mohbad.
