In a surprising yet respectful development in the Nigerian music scene, celebrated talent manager Muyiwa Awoniyi has announced his official departure as the manager of Afrobeats star Omah Lay.
Awoniyi, who has been instrumental in Omah Lay’s rise to fame since his breakout, shared the news via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday. The announcement was brief but loaded with mutual respect, confirming that the decision to end their professional relationship was made on good terms.
In his words:
“With love and respect, I am no longer managing @Omah_Lay.
That’s my brother and I wish him all the best in his endeavours for life!”
Although no reason was disclosed for the split, industry insiders suggest it was an amicable parting, with both parties looking to explore new creative directions.
Muyiwa Awoniyi has built a solid reputation in the Nigerian and global music industry, best known for managing Grammy-winning R&B sensation Tems. His management portfolio also includes a stint with Nigerian-Canadian singer Nonso Amadi, and he’s widely respected for his strategic approach to artist development and brand building.
Omah Lay, whose soulful hits like Soso, Godly, and Understand have made him one of the standout voices of the new Afrobeats generation, has yet to publicly comment on the separation. Fans, however, have taken to social media to appreciate the duo’s journey and express hope for continued success on both sides.
As the two part ways, one thing remains clear, there’s no bad blood, only mutual appreciation and the promise of bigger things ahead.
