Popular Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has come out strongly to address a viral video that falsely listed her among Nigerian actors allegedly living with HIV. The actress, known for her outspoken nature and commitment to public awareness campaigns, didn’t mince words in her response as she firmly debunked the claim and threatened legal action.
The controversy began when a content creator, Olaoluwa Segun, in a video that surfaced on Friday, named Dayo Amusa as one of five Nigerian celebrities supposedly living with the virus. The video quickly gained traction across social media, triggering a storm of reactions and confusion among fans.
However, in a swift and detailed reaction shared via her Instagram page, Dayo Amusa set the record straight. She revealed that the source of the content creator’s claim was a 2019 post she had made; a post that was taken out of context and used irresponsibly.
“I want to address a video that is trending across all social media platforms since the last 24 hours. A video posted by someone I don’t know, and people start to tag me in it,” she began.
Clarifying the original intent behind the post, Amusa stated:
“The video is related to a post I made in 2019 regarding my HIV status, which was negative. The purpose of that post was to educate people on the importance of knowing their HIV status. And even if, for any reason, you’re positive, it’s important to seek medical help and take the necessary steps. After all, it’s not the end of the world.”
She expressed shock and disappointment that her educational message was twisted into a damaging narrative:
“It’s shocking that someone picked it and enlisted me with others, claiming we are HIV positive without any proper investigation. The post has attracted several comments and likes. I am not going to let this slide. I will make you a scapegoat.”
The actress’s fiery response has drawn support from fans and colleagues alike, many of whom have praised her courage for addressing the issue head-on and taking a stand against misinformation and defamation. As public figures continue to navigate the double-edged sword of digital fame, Amusa’s reaction serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of responsible content creation and the potential consequences of crossing the line.
With legal action now on the table, all eyes remain on how this story unfolds and whether justice will be served.
