A violent late-night argument escalated into gunfire inside a Southwest Side residence early Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. on October 5, 2026, in the 7300 block of South Artesian Avenue.
A 31-year-old woman engaged in a heated dispute with a male acquaintance inside the 8th District home.
The male acquaintance, identified as 47-year-old Jabari Biddings, punched the woman directly in her face during the confrontation.

Biddings then produced a firearm and discharged a shot at the 31-year-old victim.
The bullet grazed the victim’s leg while the physical assault left severe facial bruising.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and evaluated the injured woman.
Paramedics transported the victim to Holy Cross Hospital in critical condition for emergency treatment.
Chicago police officers launched an immediate investigation into the violent attack.
Officers located Biddings in the 2600 block of South California Avenue on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Responding CPD personnel placed Biddings into custody without incident.
Biddings has a documented history of arrests with the Chicago Police Department dating back several years.

CPD officers previously arrested Biddings in April 2014 on a reckless conduct charge in the 022nd District.
Police personnel arrested him again in January 2015 for felony aggravated battery involving the discharge of a firearm in the 001st District.
Officers also arrested Biddings in July 2026 in the 007th District for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Following his latest arrest, prosecutors charged Biddings with one felony count of first-degree attempted murder.
State officials also charged Biddings with one felony count of aggravated unlawful restraint and one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm.
Biddings appears at the 2600 South California courthouse on Saturday, October 10, 2026, for a formal detention hearing.
