Popular Big Brother Naija star and billionaire heir, Kiddwaya, is facing heavy criticism on social media after launching a public donation campaign to support victims of the recent Benue massacre.
Kiddwaya took to X to announce a fundraising drive through his non-governmental organization, the Kiddwaya Foundation. According to the reality TV star, the goal is to mobilize resources to support victims of the gruesome attack in Yelewata, Benue State.
In his appeal, he wrote: “At the Kiddwaya Foundation, we’re mobilizing resources to provide food, shelter, and essential support to those affected. But we can’t do it alone; we need your help.”
He encouraged the public to contribute amounts ranging from N500 to N500,000, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian support.
However, the initiative quickly drew backlash, as many Nigerians questioned why someone known for flaunting luxury vacations, designer outfits, and private jets would solicit funds from an already burdened public. Critics pointed out the perceived contradiction between his opulent lifestyle and the call for grassroots donations.
The growing backlash prompted Kiddwaya to quietly delete the viral post from his page, although screenshots had already circulated widely online.
The donation drive was intended to assist survivors of the horrifying attack in Yelewata community, where over 200 people were reportedly burnt alive in a deadly raid believed to have been carried out by Fulani herdsmen late Friday night into Saturday morning.
While Kiddwaya’s efforts to bring attention to the tragedy were initially lauded by some, the controversy over his fundraising appeal has overshadowed the cause, sparking broader conversations about wealth, social responsibility, and celebrity activism in Nigeria.
