Award-winning Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the deep emotional inspiration behind his soul-stirring tribute track, ‘Al-Jannah’.

In a heartfelt revelation during a recent podcast interview, the music star shared intimate details about the kind of bond he shared with his late father and how his passing in 2015 left a lasting mark on his life and artistry.

“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” Kizz Daniel disclosed, adding a personal layer of emotion to the tribute song.

The track, ‘Al-Jannah’, which means “paradise” in Arabic, is not just a tribute to his father but a universal anthem dedicated to all the loved ones lost along the way. According to the singer, the song was birthed from a place of collective grief and remembrance.

“I wanted to write a tribute song. We’ve lost people in the past. We lost our son in 2021.

I lost my dad in 2015; my wife lost her mum in 2024; I lost my step-mum; we lost a whole lot of people.

I wanted to make a song for everyone, not just one person. It’s about our loved ones we have lost in this journey of life.”

He also highlighted the emotional depth he tried to capture by choosing specific lyrics.

“I think I was able to accomplish that by using the word friend in the song,” he added, pointing to the central theme of companionship and connection even in absence.

Kizz Daniel’s father passed away on May 9, 2015, just days after the singer celebrated his 21st birthday; a devastating loss that evidently shaped his emotional outlook and creative direction.

Since its release, Al-Jannah has resonated with many fans who relate to the pain of losing loved ones. With this new context, the song gains even deeper meaning, standing as a timeless reminder of love, loss, and the hope of reunion in paradise.
