Nigerian Afrobeats superstar and Grammy award-winner, Burna Boy, has clapped back at critics following the backlash surrounding his recent proposal to host a free concert in Burkina Faso.

The music icon came under fire on social media after reports emerged that his offer to stage a cost-free performance in the West African nation had allegedly been rejected by the country’s president. This development sparked a flurry of online reactions, with many mocking the initiative and questioning Burna Boy’s intentions.

Unfazed by the criticism, Burna Boy took to his Instagram Story to break his silence and defend the motives behind his humanitarian gesture. In a fiery post, the City Boys crooner made it clear that he acts based on principle, not for clout or financial gain.

“I have nothing to gain from anybody. I don’t owe anyone anything, but that never stopped me from doing the great work I do,” he wrote. “My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore burn in hell if you said anything negative.”

Burna Boy also expressed his disappointment at the wave of negativity that greeted what he considered a selfless and well-intentioned effort. He revealed that he was taken aback by the volume of offensive remarks directed at him over the matter.

Known for his bold personality and socially conscious music, Burna Boy has consistently used his influence to address African unity, political accountability, and social justice. His plan to perform for free in Burkina Faso was seen by supporters as an extension of that vision.

While critics have questioned the feasibility and motivation behind the concert, Burna Boy’s unapologetic response reinforces his stance as an artist who won’t be swayed by public opinion when it comes to doing what he believes is right.

As the controversy continues to swirl online, fans remain divided, some praising the artist’s generosity, others criticizing his tone. But if Burna’s message made one thing clear, it’s that he’s standing firm and isn’t here for the negativity.
