Reality TV star and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Queen Mercy Atang, has finally addressed the swirling rumors surrounding her marriage to David Oyekanmi, following a social media shake-up that left fans speculating about a possible marital crisis.

The couple, who tied the knot in a glamorous ceremony in March 2024, appeared to be on cloud nine until October 2024, when eagle-eyed followers noticed that Queen Mercy had unfollowed her husband on Instagram and wiped their wedding photos from her page. The move quickly sparked a wave of online buzz, with many wondering if the fairy-tale union had hit a rough patch just months after saying “I do.”

However, in a recent interview, Queen Mercy set the record straight, clarifying that her actions were not rooted in conflict, but in a conscious effort to protect her relationship from public scrutiny.

“I was just trying to take my relationship off social media. Because my husband’s account is out there, a lot of girls feel the need to slide in his DM to say positive and negative things,” she explained.

According to her, the decision to unfollow her husband and delete their wedding photos was a strategic and personal one motivated by observing how other celebrities preserve their relationships by keeping details about their spouses private.

While her social media clean-up triggered unintended backlash and speculation, Queen Mercy revealed that she was simply trying to create boundaries and safeguard her marriage from the chaos of online opinions.

“It was inspired by celebrities who keep their spouses’ personal details under the wraps,” she added.

Interestingly, the online drama seemed to come full circle when she quietly restored her wedding photos and reinstated her husband’s name in her Instagram bio, an act that reassured fans that all was well in paradise.

As conversations around privacy and celebrity relationships continue to evolve, Queen Mercy’s move reflects the growing pressure public figures face in balancing love and limelight.
