In a heartfelt interview with Hip TV, the 19-year-old artist revealed that he left his parents’ house at just 16, driven by a burning desire to create a better life for his loved ones. “Because I wanted more for my family,” Ayo Maff said, explaining the bold move that marked a turning point in his life.

The singer, who shot to fame following the release of his 2023 hit single ‘Dealer’ featuring Fireboy DML, recalled the harsh realities of life in his neighborhood. “As the first child of my family, I left home at 16 because it was not easy in there,” he shared.

“Life in Shomolu is hard, fun, and also exciting. Without living in Shomolu, I wouldn’t have the experiences of singing about them. I wouldn’t have truly seen the reality of life that shaped me,” he added, describing how his environment became a canvas for his artistic expression.

Determined to change the course of his family’s future, Ayo Maff made the difficult decision to leave home and stay with a friend for over a year. Despite the uncertainty that came with leaving, his vision remained clear. “I looked around and realised that I had to go out and make it for these people (his family). So, I just leave to stay with my friend for one year and a few months. My mum was concerned when I was leaving, but I assured her that I would be coming to check on them,” he said.

Ayo Maff’s journey is one of grit, courage, and unwavering focus. From the corners of Shomolu to topping charts and performing on major stages, the young artist has shown that with purpose and persistence, dreams can indeed become reality.

As he continues to build his name in the industry, Ayo Maff is not just making music, he’s telling the story of a generation of young Nigerians who dare to rise above their circumstances to create something extraordinary.
