Do2dtun Slams Whitemoney for ‘Tribal Sentiment’ at Headies 2025

Popular media personality, Do2dtun, has called out singer Whitemoney for introducing tribal sentiments during the 17th Headies Awards ceremony, sparking a heated conversation across social media platforms.

The controversy started after Whitemoney, while celebrating Flavour’s win in one of the major categories, made a comment that many interpreted as unnecessarily tribal. Whitemoney had reportedly declared that the win was “on behalf of the Igbos,” a remark that didn’t sit well with many fans and public figures who believed the Headies should celebrate collective African achievement rather than ethnic identity.

Reacting swiftly to the incident, Do2dtun took to his X handle to express his disappointment, stressing that such comments were divisive and misplaced at an event designed to unify African music lovers.

He wrote:

“‘On behalf of the Igbos.’ I am sorry, that was so unnecessary. It didn’t need that type of narrative. It’s an award won by an African; for Afrobeat and a Nigerian. #headies2025”

Do2dtun’s comment has since gone viral, with many netizens agreeing that the Headies, one of Africa’s premier music award platforms, should remain a celebration of unity rather than regional or ethnic affiliations.

Fans across different regions echoed the sentiment that Afrobeats, which has now become a global phenomenon, belongs to all Africans, and wins at events like the Headies should be celebrated without drawing ethnic lines.

While Whitemoney has yet to officially respond to the backlash, the incident has reignited conversations about the role of celebrities in promoting national unity, especially on high-profile stages watched by millions.
