As one of the three African countries competing in the three-day event, Nigeria battled for honours alongside host Jordan, Iraq, Indonesia, Egypt, Cyprus, Kuwait, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), South Africa, Germany, and Iran.

In the singles events, Olufemi Alabi, Faith Obazuaye, and Bolawa Akingbemisilu each claimed gold medals.

Alabi secured Nigeria’s first gold in the Men’s Class 10, while Obazuaye and Akingbemisilu won their golds in the Women’s Class 9-10 and Men’s Class 4-5, respectively, defeating compatriots Isau Ogunkinle and Kehinde Lawal.

On the final day, Tuesday, April 15, Abiola Adesope and Tajudeen Agunbiade added a fourth gold medal by winning the Men’s Doubles Classes 14-18 with a 3-1 victory.

The fifth gold was claimed by Alabi and Obazuaye in the Mixed Doubles Classes 17-18.

National coach Nosiru Sule praised the team’s performance, highlighting the quality of Nigeria’s players and calling for more support to prepare for major competitions like the African and World Championships later this year.

He also commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Umar Dikko and Director General Bukonla Olopade, for funding the trip.

Egypt’s sole gold medal was won by Sayed Youssef in the Men’s Singles Classes 6-7.
