Amid the ongoing legal battle involving alleged financial misconduct, Nigerian music star Peter Okoye of the defunct P-Square group has taken to social media to open up on how he let himself almost drown because of family for 20 years while expressing the emotional toll the feud has had on his mental health.

Just hours after testifying against his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, in court over an alleged ₦1.38 billion fraud case, Peter poured his heart out in a powerful message shared via his Instagram story.

“Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you are drowning in silence. I did – for over 20 years plus. And it almost cost me everything. But now I know better – love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family does not steal from you. Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all. Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you, or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. IF IT COSTS MY MENTAL HEALTH, THEN IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE.”

The post has since sparked reactions across social media platforms, with fans and observers weighing in on the emotional and legal implications of Peter’s ongoing fallout with Jude. The heartfelt message sheds light on what appears to be years of internal turmoil masked by the group’s outward success.

Peter’s words came shortly after he testified at the Federal High Court in Lagos, accusing Jude and his company, Northside Music Ltd, of diverting funds belonging to the group. During his testimony, he revealed years of being shut out of the group’s financial decisions, with Jude allegedly being the sole signatory to their multiple bank accounts.

The emotional post signals a significant turning point, not just in the legal saga, but in the personal lives of the Okoye brothers. For Peter, the message is clear; mental health is non-negotiable even when the battle is within the family.
