Nollywood Star Sylvester Madu Debunks “Okrika” Rumors, Says He’s a Proud Entrepreneur

Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu, popularly known as Shina Rambo, has shut down rumors suggesting he is a second-hand clothes (okrika) dealer. The speculation began in 2023 after a viral video showed the action star selling clothes laid out on the floor at a market in Enugu. The footage sparked online chatter, with many assuming he had resorted to selling okrika to survive.

However, in a recent interview with media personality Patience Yisa, Madu addressed the claims, clarifying that the clothes he was seen selling were brand-new and imported from the United States. He emphasized that laying clothes on the floor doesn’t automatically make them second-hand, especially in Nigerian markets where display styles vary.

“First of all, I don’t sell okrika,” Madu said. “Those clothes I was filmed selling are not necessarily okrika because they were on the floor. I import clothes from the U.S., and they’re brand-new.”

Sylvester Madu revealed that he has been involved in the fashion business for over 30 years, owning multiple shops with staff who manage daily operations. Despite being a movie star, he proudly participates in the hustle and says he doesn’t believe in living a “big man” lifestyle while others work for him.

“I have boys who sell for me, but I still go out to the field and sell. I dislike idleness, and I enjoy monitoring my business firsthand,” he said.

The actor’s statement reflects his passion for entrepreneurship and a strong work ethic that defies the celebrity stereotype. Rather than shy away from hard work, Madu embraces it, showing fans that dignity in labor should be celebrated, not ridiculed.
