Veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has set the record straight, his past conflict with fellow actor Emeka Ike is ancient history. In an interview with QED.ng’s Olumide Iyanda, the 59-year-old screen legend reflected on their once-public feud, emphasizing that their differences had long been put to rest.

“Emeka Ike is a fine actor. We still talk and laugh about those things. The conflict ended naturally,” Segun revealed, shedding light on their reconciliation.

Their clash dates back to 2009, during a leadership dispute within the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). Emeka Ike challenged Segun’s authority as AGN president, a battle that escalated in 2011 when Emeka secured a court injunction against the guild’s elections. Segun Arinze ultimately stepped down in 2012, but over time, the bitterness faded, replaced by mutual respect.

Reflecting on the experience, Segun shared a profound life lesson: “Hate is a burden. Travel light. What do I need that animosity for?” His words underscore the importance of moving forward without carrying unnecessary grudges.

Beyond this chapter of his life, Segun delved into his career’s trajectory, particularly the challenges of typecasting in Nollywood. Once famous for his “bad boy” roles before transitioning into law enforcement and military characters, he expressed a strong desire to break free from stereotypes and explore more diverse roles.

“I look at actors like Olu Jacobs, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Ramsey Nouah, and I admire how they’ve evolved. That’s what I strive for, growth,” he stated.

As for Nollywood’s perceived competition, Segun dismissed any notion of rivalry, advocating for a more supportive industry. “The sky is big enough for the birds to fly. When I see my colleagues thriving, I’m genuinely happy for them. Competition brings bad blood.”

With a career spanning decades, Segun Arinze’s reflections serve as both a testament to personal growth and a reminder that in both life and show business, letting go of grudges can lead to brighter horizons.
