YouTuber Norme Attempts To Break No Sleep World Record On Livestream
YouTuber Norme recently embarked on a mission to break the world record for staying awake the longest, but his attempt quickly took a dangerous turn.
During the livestream, Norme began to experience severe symptoms of sleep deprivation, including passing out, hallucinations, and incoherent speech.
His brother, Don, who is among a small group monitoring the livestream, has been trying to keep Norme awake by splashing water on his face and forcing him to stand up.
However, viewers expressed growing concern for Norme’s well-being, flooding the chat with pleas for him to stop. Many viewers even attempted to locate Norme’s whereabouts to ensure a medical professional could intervene.
“Whoa! That’s insane. I did sleep deprivation as a young Marine, but it was to stay alive, not to beat a record.” An X user said.
Another said: “Judging by his condition and the world record being 453 hours, bro needs to call it quits and take the 3rd place W.”
Interestingly, the record Norme is attempting to break is no longer recognized by Guinness World Records.
The last official record for the longest time awake was set by Robert McDonald at 453 hours and 40 minutes. Guinness ceased accepting new entries for this record in 1997 due to health risks associated with extreme sleep deprivation.
“In 1997, we stopped monitoring the record for the longest time to stay awake. The record holder at the time was Robert McDonald, who went 453 hours 40 minutes (18 days 21 hours 40 minutes) without sleeping in 1986.” Guinness World Records stated.
“Although we no longer monitor the record due to the inherent dangers associated with sleep deprivation, we can say that no one is known to have broken it since McDonald.”
Despite some claims that the livestream is staged and pre recorded, Norme has restarted the stream multiple times to maintain the full recording of his attempt and has kept all videos available on his channel. As of this writing, he remains live.
