A 6-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man are recovering after a violent encounter in Lincoln Park on Sunday night.
The attack happened around 10:24 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Sheffield Avenue.
Chicago police say the victims were walking when an aggressive stranger approached them.
The suspect pulled out a sharp object and started a physical fight with the pair.
During the struggle, the young boy suffered a cut to his back.
The 27-year-old man was stabbed in his left arm.
Ambulances took both victims to Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Medical staff listed the man and the child in fair condition.
The attacker fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
As of Monday morning, Chicago police have no one in custody.
Area Three detectives are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.
