Chicago police are investigating a shooting that left a teenager fighting for his life early Friday morning.
The incident occurred in the Englewood neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
Officers were patrolling the area near the 6600 block of South Halsted Street at approximately 12:58 a.m.
While on duty, the officers heard several gunshots ring out nearby.
They immediately moved toward the sound of the gunfire to investigate.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a 19-year-old man on the ground.
The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
First responders rushed the teenager to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Hospital staff currently list the young man in critical condition.
As of Friday morning, detectives have reported no arrests in connection with the attack.
Investigators have not yet released a description of any potential suspects.
