An 18-year-old man is the third person charged in the violent beating of a 62-year-old passenger on a CTA bus last week.
Chicago Police arrested Lyndale Roberts Jr. on Sunday.
Authorities say Roberts participated in the December 16 attack that left Larry Gilkey, 62, hospitalized with severe head injuries.
Roberts now faces a string of serious charges, including:
-
Aggravated Battery: Causing great bodily harm to a victim over 60.
-
Aggravated Battery: Involving a transit passenger.
-
Misdemeanors: Criminal trespass to a vehicle and obstruction of identification.
-
Citation: Possession of burglary tools.
Roberts is the third suspect identified in this case. Police previously arrested and charged two 15-year-olds, a boy and a girl, with multiple felony counts of aggravated battery for their roles in the assault.
The attack happened around 6:00 p.m. in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue. Family members told investigators that Larry Gilkey had simply stepped out of his house to buy cigarettes.
When he didn’t return, his family began a desperate search, only to find him hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Roberts is expected to appear in bond court this week as the investigation into the motive continues.
