A viral video from a funeral in Ghana has left many stunned.
The video shared on April 20, 2025, shows a burial ceremony where friends of the deceased, a gold miner, performed a mock mining ritual.
They poured water on the deceased’s body, propped up to “work” with a wooden tool, reenacting the “dig and wash” process used in illegal gold mining, known as galamsey.
The group, dressed in mining attire, aimed to honor their friend’s life as a galamsey worker, but the unusual ritual has sparked mixed reactions online.
Some call it a unique tribute, while others find it disturbing. The video, tagged with “Galamsey boys laid their late colleague to rest, and here’s how it all unfolded,” has gained thousands of views, highlighting Ghana’s creative funeral traditions.
