Two gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on December 14, 2025.
The attack killed at least three people and injured several others, with some reports suggesting up to 10 deaths and over 100 hurt.
Police shot one suspect dead at the scene, while the other received medical treatment after being wounded.
Police have confirmed that the arrested man is Naveed Akram, 24, from Bonnyrigg in Sydney’s south-west. Akram remains in custody, where emergency services are treating his wounds. Officers are now raiding his home in Bonnyrigg, which his family has owned for a year.
There are claims that he is likely from Pakistan. A photo of an ID card has spread online, showing the name “Naveed Akram” and an address in Bonnyrigg, NSW 2177. Reports describe him as an immigrant who held a valid firearms license
The firearms used in the attack appeared to be semi-automatic, with magazines scattered on the ground. Police are also examining a suspected IED bomb at the scene. Unverified reports suggest someone placed it under a pedestrian bridge.
The incident happened during a Jewish community event on the first night of Hanukkah. Videos showed people running for safety as shots rang out near a playground.
One brave person grabbed a gun from a shooter, helping to stop the attack. Police quickly secured the area and told the public to stay away.
Officials have not released official names or motives yet. The attack has raised concerns about rising antisemitism. Investigations continue, and more details may come soon.
