A Monday morning in West Pullman turned into a scene of extreme violence.
Gunfire erupted in the 800 block of West 122nd Street just before noon.
Police arrived to find a young man lying in the street on the city’s Far South Side.
Authorities have identified the victim as 26-year-old Jajauan Thigpen.

Thigpen was a resident of the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m.
Thigpen suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene at 12:04 p.m.
The scale of the attack became clear as investigators processed the area.
A police source confirmed that officers recovered about 86 shell casings.

The massive amount of evidence stretched across the block where Thigpen fell.
Detectives spent hours marking the yellow evidence tags on the pavement.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office is currently involved in the case.
Area 2 detectives are leading the investigation into the homicide.
No suspects are in custody at this time.
The neighborhood remains on edge after the brazen daylight attack.
