A fire has broken out at Afriland Tower on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The six-storey building, which houses several businesses, including a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch, has been affected by a fire that originated in its basement.
In a moment of panic during the fire, a UBA staff member jumped down from the storey building in an attempt to escape the blaze. The condition of the staff member is currently unknown.
Eyewitnesses at the scene watched as the individual jumped from the building. The fire is believed to have spread from the inverter room in the basement, engulfing multiple floors.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and Lagos Island Local Government are on the ground, working to contain the fire and rescue any victims.
