Tottenham have been dealt a major blow ahead of the Europa League final against Manchester United as Dejan Kulusevski has undergone a knee surgery, ruling him out of the encounter.
Kulusevski suffered a knee injury in Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday and the club confirmed on Wednesday that he has gone under the knife.
The statement read: “We can confirm that Dejan Kulusevski suffered an injury to his right patella in our Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace last weekend.
“Following further specialist consultation, the midfielder has undergone surgery today and will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately.”
In another blow to Tottenham’s preparations for the Europa League final, James Maddison has also suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Tottenham will be looking to end their 17-year trophy drought when they take on Manchester United in the final on May 21.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have endured a disappointing campaign in the Premier League this season.
Spurs are fourth-bottom after suffering their 20th league defeat of the season at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, putting them on course to finish in their lowest position since the modern Premier League began in 1992/93 and lowest overall since suffering top-flight relegation in 1976/77.
James Maddison has scored 12 goals ans recorded 11 assists for Tottenham this season in all competitions while Kulusevski has scored 10 goals and recorded 11 assists in 50 appearances.
