Super Falcons star Monday Gift has been named in the National Women’s Soccer League team of the week following her impressive performance for Washington Spirit.
Monday scored the only goal for the club in their 1-0 victory over Orlando Pride last weekend.
It was her first goal for the club since joining them in the January transfer window.
She capitalised on an error from Orlando Pride’s goalkeeper Anna Moorehouse to fire home the winner in the 63rd minute.
The win was enough to propel Washington DC to the third position on the log with 12 points from four matches, three point behind leaders KC Current.
Monday’s performance was rewarded with a place in the league’s team of the week alongside her teammates Aubrey Kingsbury, Tara McKeown, and Riley Bernal.
The former FC Robo Queens star was delighted to score her first goal for the club in her second appearance.
She said: “I’m really happy to get my first goal for the team. A decisive goal at that. It’s been a journey settling into a new league and environment, but I’m grateful for the support from the coaches, teammates, and fans. This goal is just the beginning. l,” she wrote on X.
Monday will be hoping to continue her goalscoring exploits when Washington Spirits take on Gotham FC on Saturday.
She is an established member of the Super Falcons squad, making her debut in 2019, and was part of the Super Falcons’ 23-player squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
