Chicago Police arrested 22-year-old Marques Williams and a 16-year-old male following a violent crime spree in Streeterville, where a 64-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery before a nearby driver was carjacked at gunpoint.
Chicago Police have charged a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old teenager with attempted murder following a violent Friday night crime spree that left an out-of-state tourist shot in Streeterville.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Marques Williams and the 16-year-old male juvenile on Friday, October 2, 2026, on the city’s South Side.
The severe felony charges stem from a coordinated robbery, shooting, and carjacking sequence that unfolded across two nearby parking structures within minutes.

According to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, the victim was a 64-year-old man visiting Chicago from Plattsburgh, New York, alongside his 29-year-old wife.
The violence began around 6:30 p.m. inside an underground parking garage in the 400 block of East Illinois Street.

The Plattsburgh couple was retrieving items from their rental car on a lower basement level when two masked robbers confronted them.
Witnesses told police that one of the offenders pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at the couple, and demanded their car keys.

When the visitor refused to hand over his keys, the gunman threatened to shoot him before opening fire, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The gunman fired a single shot, striking the 64-year-old visitor in the left side of his rib cage.
Passersby called emergency dispatchers after hearing gunshots and screaming echoing through the garage structure.

The victim’s daughter also phoned 911 to report that her father had been shot on the garage’s third basement level.
Responding police officers and paramedics quickly applied first aid to slow the man’s bleeding while he lay on the garage floor.
Emergency personnel transported the tourist to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where officials initially reported him in good condition.

Surveillance cameras showed the masked attackers immediately fleeing the Illinois Street structure through the Grand Avenue exit and heading west.
Minutes later, the fleeing suspects entered the Whole Foods parking garage in the 200 block of East Grand Avenue.
The suspects confronted a 29-year-old man at gunpoint inside the second garage structure, robbing him of his wallet and phone.
The robbers then stole the driver’s gray Subaru Forester at gunpoint and sped out of the garage to make their escape.

The 29-year-old Subaru driver was not physically injured during the armed hijacking.
Using vehicle tracking and police radio dispatches, officers located both fleeing suspects on the South Side less than an hour after the shooting.
Police arrested the 16-year-old suspect at 7:42 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Bishop Street.
Officers apprehended Williams twelve minutes later in the 8100 block of South Loomis Boulevard.

Court records show Williams has an extensive criminal record involving armed robberies, stolen vehicles, and weapons charges.
As a juvenile in 2019 and 2020, Williams was adjudicated delinquent for gun possession and criminal trespass to a vehicle.
In March 2023, Williams and three accomplices jumped out of a stolen SUV and robbed four people at gunpoint in River North while he had active warrants and pending carjacking charges.
In November 2025, Williams received an eight-year prison sentence for the River North armed robbery, but he was released based on jail credit and standard sentence reductions.
Williams received a separate 10-year sentence in January 2026 for a Park Ridge armed robbery, which was also largely offset by time already served.
Most recently, Chicago Police arrested Williams on July 21, 2026, on South Emerald Avenue for possessing a stolen motor vehicle, but a judge dismissed the case for lack of probable cause on August 28.
Prosecutors formally charged both Williams and the teenager with first-degree attempted murder, armed robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated vehicular hijacking.
Williams, a resident of the 900 block of West 71st Street, is scheduled for a formal detention hearing on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 2600 South California Avenue.
