Sony Music Publishing Strikes Major Deal with Highlife Legend Bright Chimezie to Globalize Zigima Sound

In a landmark move to preserve and project one of Nigeria’s most iconic musical legacies, Sony Music Publishing has announced a groundbreaking publishing deal with highlife veteran Bright Chimezie. Known for his infectious energy, cultural commentary, and the creation of the “Zigima Sound,” Chimezie’s influence has been pivotal in shaping the trajectory of modern highlife and Afrobeat.

The newly signed deal will see Sony Music Publishing administer and consolidate Bright Chimezie’s extensive catalog of classic recordings and compositions, breathing new life into his music while ensuring his legacy is preserved for future generations.

“Bright Chimezie’s music has transcended time and continues to resonate across borders,” said Mr. Godwin Tom, Managing Director of Sony Music Publishing Company Nigeria. “We are honored to bring his extraordinary catalog into our family and look forward to creating new opportunities that celebrate his contributions to African music.”

This collaboration marks a strategic effort by Sony to invest in African music heritage, offering legendary artists like Chimezie the platform and resources to reintroduce their art to a global audience.
