The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, has refuted claims linking the governor to the impeachment of former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Akosile dismissed the rumors as baseless, emphasizing that the impeachment was a legislative decision. “The governor has no hand in it. It was purely a legislative matter,” Akosile stated. He highlighted that Sanwo-Olu is focused on governance and serving Lagos State’s over 20 million residents.

Obasa, who was serving his third term as Speaker, was removed on Monday by members of the Assembly. The House elected Mojisola Meranda, APC-Apapa I, as the new Speaker, while Fatai Adebola, APC-Ibeju-Lekki I, assumed the role of Deputy Speaker. Additionally, the Assembly suspended its Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, indefinitely, and dissolved all principal positions and standing committees.

Akosile reiterated that the governor had no involvement in the internal affairs of the legislature and noted the developments were entirely within the Assembly’s jurisdiction.
