Remo Stars Closing In On First NPFL Title Despite Katsina United Draw

Remo Stars played out a disappointing 0-0 draw against Katsina United at home on Sunday to earned a hard-fought point in their quest to winning their first-ever NPFL title.

The Sky Blue Stars are now seven points clear of second-placed Rivers United, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Abia Warriors.

Daniel Ogunmodede’s side failed to find any breakthrough in Ikenne to drop two key points ahead of the last five games of the season.

Finidi George-led Rivers United could not take advantage of the leaders’ result as they faltered in Umuahia.

Emmanuel Ogbuagu and Anthony Ijoma scored both goals for Abia Warriors.

In Kano, Super Eagles legend, Ahmed Musa scored to lead Kano Pillars to a 2-0 win over Lobi Stars. Naziru Auwalu sealed the win in the 90th minute from the penalty spot.

Sunshine Stars recorded a stunning 2-1 win over Enyimba to boost their relegation survival hopes.

Elmer Arunta gave the hosts the lead in the eighth minute before Christian Nnaji restored parity for Enyimba before the half hour mark.

Waheed Adebayo grabbed the maximum points for Sunshine Stars to increase their points to 38, while they are languishing in 19th on the log.

Akwa United and El-Kanemi Warriors played out a 1-1 draw in Uyo.

Osoba Kabir gave Akwa United the lead in the 19th minute before Wisdom Ndon scored an own goal to equalise for El-kanemi Warriors.

In the biggest match of the round, Heartland defeated defending champions Enugu Rangers 2-0 in the oriental derby at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Suraju Lawal, and Isaac Nassy scored the goals that handed them a vital win in their fight to avoid relegation.

Remo Stars will take on Shooting Stars in their next match next Sunday.
