Onyeka Onwenu has reportedly passed away on Tuesday shortly after performing at a birthday party in Lagos.
Reports said the ‘One Love’ singer died on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital, having slumped after a performance at the 80th birthday celebration of her friend and founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Chief Stella Okoli.
Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has mourned the passing of veteran Nigerian singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu.
Sani said the nation had lost a timeless legend and a great artist who sang from the heart.
“Onyeka;the Nation has lost a timeless legend and a great artist who sang from the heart, spreading the messages of love and peace through music. Your melodies will forever resonate in our souls. Rest in peace.” He wrote on X (formerly twitter).
He added; “Onyeka was a like Bird who spent the whole of its life singing about love and peace and decided to fly away when her belligerent nation wasn’t listening. Rest in Peace and rise in glory.”
The cause of death is currently unknown at this time.
