Rivers United captain Temple Emekayi has revealed that the team is ready to return to winning ways against Remo Stars on Sunday.
Rivers United will battle table-toppers Remo Stars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt in a bid to recover from their embarrassing 2-1 loss to Beyond Limits in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
The Pride of Rivers also lost their last NPFL match against Bayelsa United, Emekayi is confident that he and his teammates will return to winning ways against Remo Stars.
He said: “I know it will take a little bit to get going again, but I think what we are playing for in the league is enough motivation for all of us.
Rivers United are eight points behind Remo Stars in second, a win on Sunday will reduce the lead to five while a defeat will make it 11 points with seven matches to go.
Emekayi has refused to give up on the NPFL title race, urging his teammates to take it one game at a time to achieve their objective of winning silverware at the of the season.
He said: “Every game now is so important, it has been for a while. It has been so tight and so competitive.
“We want to win something, and that’s been the big goal. But I think we can’t look too far ahead; we have to take it day by day, and game by game.
“Remo Stars is next, and we have to get ready for the next game. Then we move on from there.”
Rivers United have won 14 matches, drawn 10, and lost seven in 31 matches in the NPFL this season.
They take on a Remo Stars side brimming in confidence as they close in on their first-ever NPFL title.
The Sky Blue Stars earned a comfortable 2-0 win in their last match, and they have won four out of their last six matches to open up an eight point lead.
In the other NPFL fixtures, Heartland will take on Kano Pillars, Bendel Insurance will host Enugu Rangers in Benin on Saturday.
On Sunday, Lobi Stars will be in action against Sunshine Stars, Niger Tornadoes will slug it out with El Kanemi Warriors, Plateau United will welcome Kwara United to Jos.
In Aba, Enyimba will be involved in a derby with Abia Warriors, there is another South West derby between Shooting Stars, and Ikorodu City.
Katsina United is at home against Bayelsa United, and Nasarawa United will battle it out with Akwa United.
