Federal agents in the United States have arrested Michael Opeoluwa Egbele, a Nigerian national, during a major crackdown on criminal illegal aliens.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that Egbele was convicted of fraud and impersonation.
His arrest was part of “Operation Metro Surge,” a mission targeting the most dangerous individuals in Minnesota neighborhoods.
The operation successfully removed violent assailants, domestic abusers, and drug traffickers from the streets.
DHS officials described those arrested during the sweep as the “worst of the worst” criminals.
However, federal authorities are criticizing Minnesota leaders for refusing to cooperate with immigration enforcement.
DHS claims that local “sanctuary” policies allow criminal aliens to be released from jail directly back onto the streets.
Records show that nearly 470 criminal illegal aliens have been released in Minnesota since President Trump took office.
Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey currently face pressure to honor arrest detainers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
There are reportedly more than 1,360 aliens, including violent criminals, currently in the state’s custody.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that law enforcement is working to protect neighborhoods despite a lack of help from local politicians.
She noted that agents continue to face violence while trying to remove sexual predators and drug traffickers from the country.
DHS has officially called on Minnesota leadership to prioritize the safety of residents over sanctuary policies.
