The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has moved swiftly to dismiss viral rumors circulating on social media about the alleged death of its Managing Director and celebrated actor, Ali Nuhu.
The speculation, which began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, posted a video suggesting that the Kannywood star had passed away, quickly gained traction online. Another unverified post went further, claiming the veteran actor and filmmaker was involved in a fatal car accident.
However, the NFC has described the reports as entirely baseless. In an official statement released Monday evening, the Corporation’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, strongly condemned the rumors, labeling them “false and malicious.”
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space; and wishes to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Dr. Ali Nuhu, are not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.
Reassuring fans and industry stakeholders, the NFC affirmed that Ali Nuhu remains “alive, well, and fully carrying out his responsibilities” as the head of the organization, a position he was appointed to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024.
The Corporation further warned that legal and disciplinary measures are being considered against those behind the spread of the misinformation.
“NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these uncouth and dastardly acts, including their sponsors, to the dire and unmistakable consequences of their actions, no matter the innocuousness of their intent,” the statement cautioned.
It also assured the public that steps had been taken to curb such harmful narratives in the future, while expressing gratitude to Nigerians who showed genuine concern.
“Meanwhile, appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory conduct and trend. NFC appreciates the genuine concerns expressed by the general public, private, and public sector stakeholders as a result of the above,” the statement concluded.
Ali Nuhu, widely referred to as the “King of Kannywood,” remains one of Nigeria’s most celebrated film icons, with an illustrious career spanning acting, directing, and now administration.
