The Nigerian government has officially confirmed its involvement in the precision airstrikes carried out by the United States in the country’s Northwest region on Christmas night.
In a press statement released on Friday, December 26, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) explained that the operation was part of a “structured security cooperation” aimed at eliminating the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria.
The MFA spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, stated that the “precision hits” were made possible through intelligence sharing and strategic coordination between the two nations.
This follows an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who confirmed he ordered the strikes to protect citizens from ISIS militants.
While the U.S. administration emphasized the protection of Christian communities, the Nigerian government clarified that its counter-terrorism efforts are designed to protect all citizens, regardless of their faith.
“Terrorist violence in any form, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, remains an affront to Nigeria’s values,” the Ministry stated.
The government reiterated that its primary goal is to safeguard national unity and the dignity of all Nigerians.
The Ministry assured the public that these military actions are consistent with international law and mutual respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
