Popular gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has opened up about a deeply emotional chapter in his marriage, revealing that his wife, Sarah Bassey, went through five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, while he continued leading his globally celebrated online worship movement, the Hallelujah Challenge.
Bassey made the heartfelt revelation in the early hours of Friday during the ongoing October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, a 25-day worship event that runs from October 7 to 31, with sessions streaming live every night at 11:59 p.m.
Speaking with visible emotion, the “Imela” crooner said that even while enduring private pain, he remained steadfast in his ministry — often leading thousands in worship online and then returning to the hospital to care for his wife.
“As men of God and ministers, we hear a lot of stories. People come to me and say, ‘Pastor Nathaniel, you don’t understand,’” he shared.
“My wife will have to forgive me for this, but there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew. I would still come online to praise and dance.”
He went on to recall one of the most difficult periods of their lives when his wife was hospitalized with an ectopic pregnancy.
“A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital. The nurses attending to her would tell me, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one, not two, not three or four pregnancies, but five,” he revealed.
Despite the pain, Nathaniel Bassey expressed gratitude to God for giving them strength through the trials and using their story to inspire faith and perseverance among believers.
Bassey, who has been married to Sarah since 2013, is widely known for his uplifting gospel anthems and his global online revival, the Hallelujah Challenge, which has become a powerful movement of faith, hope, and worship across the world.
