Afrobeats star and business mogul Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has revealed plans to venture into politics, declaring his intention to run for presidency in an African country in the near future.
The award-winning musician made the revelation in a video shared via Snapchat, where he opened up about his long-standing interest in governance and leadership.
Mr Eazi, who recently tied the knot with Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, said his motivation for seeking public office stemmed from a desire to bring visionary, corruption-free leadership to Africa.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while now,” he said. “I think it’s time to share it with you guys. Some of you might be from an African country and you’re looking for a president, a president who’s not after money or power, but one who’s forward-thinking, young, active, and ready to move the country forward. So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency.”
Although Nigerian by birth, Mr Eazi enjoys deep cultural and emotional ties with Ghana, where he studied and kick-started his career in music. He has often credited the West African nation for shaping his sound, which he famously branded “Banku Music”, a fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian rhythms.
Known for his entrepreneurial drive, Mr Eazi has also built a successful business empire through ventures like emPawa Africa, a platform dedicated to discovering and funding emerging African artists, and Zagadat Capital, a venture capital firm investing in tech and creative startups across the continent.
His presidential revelation comes amid a growing trend of Nigerian entertainers showing interest in politics. In April 2025, actress Eniola Badmus publicly declared her ambition to become a Senator, while former lawmaker Ben Murray-Bruce once predicted that Davido could one day become the Governor of Osun State.
Fans and commentators have since taken to social media to share mixed reactions with some applauding Mr Eazi’s vision and intellect, while others question whether the entertainment star can withstand the intensity of African politics.
