Nigerian singer and songwriter, Chike Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has stirred reactions after describing marriage as “a stupid step.”
The 32-year-old, celebrated for his soulful voice and romantic ballads, made the remark during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on the WithChude podcast. Despite being famous for love-themed music, Chike admitted that marriage is not on his radar at the moment.
“In my personal opinion, in fact, I think it’s a stupid step to get married, that’s my opinion,” the Boo of the Booless crooner bluntly declared.
Chike went on to reveal that, unlike what many may assume, his happiness is not tied to love or relationships but rather to financial stability. According to him, being comfortable and secure with money gives him more fulfillment than romance.
Beyond his controversial take on marriage, the singer also opened up about his journey into music. He confessed that a career in music wasn’t part of his initial life plan.
“I would say maybe right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, to be honest, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he explained.
Chike also recalled the early, difficult years of his career when he faced financial struggles and had to branch into acting just to survive. “It was a tough part, I even had to start acting for like two years,” he recounted.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Chike has shared unorthodox views on love and relationships. Back in 2022, he admitted that he had never uttered the words “I love you” to anyone, explaining that the phrase makes him feel too vulnerable.
“I get that feeling that if I say it, my bolz would shrink and disappear. Happy I get to sing it though,” he said at the time.
Chike’s candid confessions continue to fuel conversations, as fans grapple with the contrast between his music, which celebrates romance, and his personal beliefs, which downplay love and marriage.
