A fire broke out in a building near Mandilas Market in Lagos Island on Tuesday evening. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly to the emergency.
The fire started on the fourth floor of Emab Plaza, a four-storey building on Taiwo Street behind Mandilas. Officials received the alert at 7:23 PM. Fire crews from Ebute Elefun and Oniru stations rushed to the scene right away.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. No reports of injuries or deaths have come in yet.
Olajide Ogabi, Deputy Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, shared details in a statement. He said: “Fire Emergency Alert Building on Fire The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at a four storey building, with the blaze reported from the fourth floor of Emab Plaza, located behind Mandilas, Taiwo Street, Lagos Island. The incident was reported at 19:23 hours, prompting immediate dispatch of fire crews from the Ebute Elefun Oniru Fire Stations. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.”
Firefighters worked to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas. Mandilas Market is a busy spot in Lagos, known for its shops and traders. The incident caused concern among locals and business owners.
There have also been reports of hundreds of millions of goods lost at the Mandilas market fire.
The Mandilas fire is coming a few hours after the UBA Bank fire incident.
