Chicago police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred on the city’s South Side.
The incident took place early Sunday morning in the Brainerd neighborhood.
Officers responded to a call in the 9200 block of South Green Street around 12:50 a.m.
A 30-year-old man was inside a home when a fight broke out.
The victim was involved in a physical struggle with a man he knew.
During the altercation, the suspect stabbed the 30-year-old with a knife.
The attacker immediately fled the residence after the stabbing occurred.
First responders rushed the victim to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Doctors later pronounced the 30-year-old man dead.
According to ABC7 Chicago, the suspect escaped the area in a white sedan.
Chicago police confirmed they recovered a knife at the scene of the crime.
No one is currently in custody as detectives continue their investigation.
Area Two detectives are handling the ongoing homicide case.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The motive behind the initial fight remains unclear at this time.
Community members expressed concern over the late-night violence on their block.
