The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) recently brought its advocacy campaign to Ajegunle, where officials actively engaged residents, traders, and youth in discussions on proper waste disposal and community involvement to maintain a clean environment.
The initiative highlighted LAWMA’s core belief that real change starts with awareness and hands-on action. “Our programs do more than just inform people,” a LAWMA spokesperson said. “They equip communities to take charge and build a cleaner, greener Lagos together.”
During the event, participants learned simple steps to make a difference: disposing of waste correctly, joining recycling efforts, and stopping illegal dumping. LAWMA stressed that everyone plays a role in creating livable neighborhoods, urging individuals to lead by example.
This outreach is part of LAWMA’s broader mission to tackle waste challenges in Lagos, one of Africa’s most populous cities. By fostering community participation, the authority aims to reduce pollution and promote sustainability.
Residents responded positively, with many pledging to adopt better habits. “It’s about us owning our environment,” one trader noted. LAWMA plans to expand similar drives across other areas to amplify the impact.
